Embarrassing position

Sometimes I am really embarrassed by the Norwegian Government. This time it was because the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre, ran the errand of the Palestinians in last OECD-meeting in Paris.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it says that:

I would like to add the need to also address outstanding issues relating to the candidacy of Israel. Norway believes that a number of questions arise related to the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel. Recent news about new settlements on occupied land is a profound challenge to the ongoing peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians and runs counter to pledges that have been made at numerous occasions. (Read the whole statement here).

I object that Israelis should be denied the right to settle in the Jewish heartland of Judea and Samaria. They won this land in a war directed against them from their neighboring countries. The areas under dispute have never had an independent status and can as well legally be annexed by Israel. Jordan, the previous occupying country of these areas, has a peace agreement with Israel with no claims to Judea and Samaria. Besides; Jews were living here before the attack on Israel in 1948.

It is therefore embarrassing for me as a Norwegian to see that Norway’s leftist government is siding with Israel’s enemies in this case.
